Welcome

Here you find a few assorted crafts that a great for the younger children.

We in Home Daycare often can't find crafts for 2 and 3 year old that are also still fun for the 4 year old.

Things to make with oatmeal boxes

We all have them and we throw them out not thinking twice about what we could make out of them. If you don't have the storage space to save a few containers, ask parents to bring an empty oatmeal drum at a specific time. Maybe plan for this activity a month or two in advance, to give parents time to buy and eat the oatmeal.

Craft Idea 1 OATMEAL BOX CRADLE for small Dolls

Supplies needed:

  • An oatmeal box
  • Scissors
  • Construction paper or fabric scraps
  • Glue

Cut an oatmeal box into the shape of a cradle. Glue the remaining part of the lid onto the cradle.

Glue construction paper or fabric scraps onto the outside of the cradle.

Decorate with paper, markers, or fabric scraps. You now have a cute little cradle for a favorite doll or teddy bear.

Craft Idea 2

Supplies:

  • An oatmeal box (or another cylindrical box)
  • A sheet of cardstock (or thin cardboard) for the roof
  • Pencil or marker
  • A compass or a plate or bowl (to help you draw a circle)
  • Scissors (to cut the cardstock)
  • Glue stick (or tape)
  • Tempera or acrylic paint (red and white)
  • Scrap newspaper (to protect the table)

Measure the diameter of the oatmeal box. This is to determine how big a circle to cut for your silo's roof.
On the cardstock (or thin cardboard), draw a circle that is about 3 inches greater in diameter than the diameter of the oatmeal box. To draw a circle, either use a compass or find a plate or bowl that is about the right size and trace around it.

Cut out the circle.

Cut one slit in the circle, cutting all the way to the center of the circle.

Overlap the edges of the slit you just cut (let them overlap about an inch or so). Glue them together, forming a wide, short cone that will be your silo's roof.

Paint the silo red.
When the red paint is dry, paint the outline of doors on the silo in white (or another contrasting color).
Place the roof on the silo.

You now have a farm silo with a removable roof.
